A rural village in the heart of Central Victoria — between Taradale, Castlemaine and Harcourt — on traditional Dja Dja Wurrung land.

At the junction of the former Calder and Pyrenees Highways, on the railway line from Melbourne to Bendigo, the Coliban water channel weaves right through the township of Elphinstone. Transcending those many lines is a peacefulness and community spirit that comes with a small town of around 600 people.

Elphinstone boasts a wide variety of businesses including two remaining large apple and pear orchards, a range of community groups, a thriving school and playgroup for zero-to-five-year-olds, and our very own Wildlife Shelter. The Elphinstone pub ‘The Elpho’, the post office and the recreation reserve serve as places for the community to connect.

The countryside around Elphinstone is well known for its diverse flora and fauna which attract local and visiting bush walkers. The local terrain of undulating hills and gently winding roads also brings a number of cyclists and motorcyclists. These days Elphinstone is increasingly welcoming tree-changers to our beautiful landscape.
